Congressman Steve Stivers is currently serving his fourth term as a Member of Congress and represents Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, which is made up of 12 counties including, all of Clinton, Fairfield, Hocking, Madison, Morgan, Perry, Pickaway, and Vinton counties, and parts of Athens, Fayette, Franklin, and Ross counties.

Stivers has served on the Financial Services Committee throughout his time in Congress, which oversees the banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities industries. The Committee also reviews housing and consumer protection legislation and has jurisdiction over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Reserve Bank.

A career soldier, Stivers has served over 30 years in the Ohio Army National Guard and holds the rank of Brigadier General. He served the United States overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom in Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Djibouti where he led 400 soldiers and contractors and is proud that each and every one returned home safely to the United States. Stivers received the Bronze Star for his leadership throughout the deployment.

Christopher M. George, Chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association, is the founder, President and CEO of CMG Financial, a privately held Mortgage Bank, headquartered in San Ramon,  California. In addition to his role at CMG Financial, George has served on the MBA’s Board of Directors since 2012, is a member of MBA’s Independent Mortgage Bankers Executive Council and MBA’s Consumer Affairs Advisory Council, as well as an active member of MBA’s advocacy efforts. He is also immediate past Chairman of MBA’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.   Additionally, George is past Chairman for California Mortgage Bankers Association and has served on many advisory boards and task forces within the industry.

James Sassano manages the Carlisle Law foreclosure, mediation and loss mitigation departments.   Mr. Sassano was a staff attorney from 1994 to 1997 to two judges of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. He joined our law firm in 1997 as an associate practicing real estate law with an emphasis on creditor representation in foreclosure actions. Mr. Sassano was instrumental in gathering a coalition of lenders and various Cuyahoga County officeholders, including several suburban mayors, to provide a source of funding for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas to expedite the foreclosure process.

Division of Financial Institutions

As Deputy Superintendent at the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Financial Institutions, Zach Luck oversees examination, licensing, and administrative enforcement for more than 18,000 consumer finance licensees in Ohio. Prior to joining the Division, Zach represented and counseled financial institutions and other companies at a global law firm. Zach previously served as Senior Advisor to Director Richard Cordray of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. While at the CFPB, he provided policy and legal analysis on consumer financial protection issues, drafted portions of consumer financial protection regulations, and helped to create new financial education resources.

Kelly Lipinski, McGlinchey Stafford

Kelly Lipinski, McGlinchey Stafford Cleveland, focuses her practice  on compliance and regulatory matters involving the consumer financial industry. She regularly advises depository institutions and their affiliates, mortgage companies, sales finance companies, and education lenders on federal and state consumer finance issues.  Kelly also has experience with state compliance issues and frequently represents clients before state regulatory agencies, concerning licensing and examination issues. Kelly will lead a panel of Non-QM lenders, adding insight on the regulatory side.

Rob Folland, partner at Barnes & Thornburg, focuses his practice on commercial litigation and the defense of financial institutions in both consumer and commercial disputes. Rob also has an active insolvency practice where he assists financial institutions’ debtors and creditors’ committees, trustees, receivers and creditors. Rob has represented national mortgage servicers against class action allegations in the context of forced-placed insurance claims, failure to honor oral modification of loan payment terms and in the context of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
